The weekly, bi-weekly and monthly newspapers along with the daily newspapers were started to be published starting from the second half of the XIX. Century. The first periodicals appeared as the publications of the scientific organisations as in Europe. According to the researches the first published periodical was "Mecmua-i funun". National Library has started as a small office at the Ministry of National Education on April 15th, 1946. On March 29th, 1950 it has officially established and it has taken control of the Ottoman period heritage. The National Library stores and preserves the old style Turkish periodicals and has been serving the collection to the reserachers via their microfilm copies. With the improving technology, The Natioanl Library has started to digitise the Arabic character Turkish Periodicals to be able to give better service to the researchers via internet. The first step of the project is to digitise a part of the Periodicals and it will be extended to cover the whole collection. The researchers who want to use the system can connect to the National Library web site and query the metadata of the material. They can also investigate the full page image of the periodicals as well as the detailed information on the articles in those periodicals. If you think that any information about articles is incorrect, you may send a notice from here. |
